Fairchild is dedicated to harnessing the power of plants by connecting people to the natural world and advancing a bold vision for Miami’s future: a City in a Garden. 

As one of the world’s leading science-education–driven botanic gardens, we combine extraordinary beauty with nationally recognized conservation, research, and STEM learning. For the past three years, we have been named the Best Botanical Garden in North America, and this year the Miami New Times honored us as Miami’s Best Outdoor Attraction.

Our 83-acre campus is home to the National Orchid Garden; the Million Orchid Project; the Million Butterfly Project; the Native Plant Network; the Million Balcony Project, a micro-forest initiative; the only tropical rainforest in the continental United States; one of the world’s largest palm and cycad collection and mango collections; and globally rare and endangered species. Fairchild also operates the only botany-focused high school and elementary school in the world -- BioTECH -- and leads the largest citizen-science network in botany. We remain the only botanical garden collaborating directly with NASA to grow edible plants for space exploration. In addition, for more than 40 years, Fairchild has led Miami’s native plant conservation efforts. Our conservation team works with scientists, land managers, educators, and thousands of citizen participants to restore the region’s native flora and the wildlife that depends on it. Central to this work is the Native Plant Network, a free community program that distributes native plant starter kits, trains participants to monitor pollinators, and collects seeds for Fairchild’s seed bank and propagation efforts. 

Fairchild’s guiding principle is clear. Miami’s resilience in the face of climate change, and its ability to grow into a true City in a Garden, depends on expanding native plantings, rebuilding habitats, restoring butterflies and orchids across neighborhoods, and mobilizing private citizens alongside public institutions. Our programs are designed to make this transformation real, block by block, school by school, and garden by garden.
