Now in its 30th season, City Theatre is an award-winning professional theater company based in Miami, Florida. Your Give Miami Day donation supports impactful arts programming in our community.

Best known for its annual short play festival, SUMMER SHORTS, the company has produced hundreds of short plays by both established and emerging writers discovered through its SUSAN J. WESTFALL NATIONAL SHORT PLAYWRITING CONTEST. SUMMER SHORTS also offers an Emerging Artist Program, providing college students and recent graduates with valuable hands-on experience in production and performance, working alongside seasoned professionals.

City Theatre offers free educational initiatives at venues throughout Miami-Dade County. The SHORT CUTS TOUR empowers thousands of young people with issue-oriented short plays, presented free in public schools, summer camps, and libraries. CITY READS fosters short play development and lively discussions, employing over 100 local theater artists at venues such as Books & Books, Pinecrest Gardens, and the Village of Key Biscayne. The HOMEGROWN Playwright Development Program creates opportunities for local playwrights from historically marginalized communities, enhancing our cultural landscape. City Theatre's main stage is located at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts’ Carnival Studio Theatre, where it produces an annual full-length play as part of the Arsht Center's Theater Up Close Series.

City Theatre was honored by the Carbonell Committee with the prestigious Bill Von Maurer Award, recognizing significant contributions to South Florida theater through its dedication to the short form play format and fostering new play development.
