Ceramic League of Miami, Inc.

A nonprofit organization

$7,566 raised by 44 donors

Throughout the years, members have donated many hours to demonstrations, workshops, training programs and educational exhibits in the public schools, for numerous organizations, groups of disadvantaged people and various public events in the community. The annual Ceramic League Fair of quality-handcrafted ceramics predates the many arts and crafts festivals that are an integral part of our community today.
The Visiting Artist Program of the League has brought into the area ceramic artists of national and international reputation who have led workshops open to the public. These artists also have judged the annual Members Exhibition.
The League is administered by a volunteer Board of Directors, seven are elected Officers and the others are appointed Committee chairpersons. Committees include Archives, Budget and Finance, Clay and Chemicals, Community Service, Hospitality, House and Equipment, Membership, Members' Exhibition, Newsletter, Programs and Workshops, and others.
The League is non-profit and tax-exempt, funded through dues, donations and the sale of handcrafted ceramics. The CLM Community School offers classes for beginners as well as those seeking knowledge in advanced specialized aspects of ceramics. The Summer Clay Camp instructs youngsters age seven through eighteen during weeklong sessions.
The Board of Directors juries the work of applicants for Active Membership. The membership represents a wide range of ceramists, from student to professional. However, all find that creativity in clay adds a positive dimension to their lives and in some instances, a source of additional income.

The Ceramic League maintains facilities, equipment and supplies for use by members. The CLM owns potter's wheels, a slab roller, a clay mixer, worktables, electric kilns, a soda kiln, a gas kiln and raku kilns. This equipment is made available to Active Members through a system of volunteer monitors.

The Ceramic League of Miami is a non-profit, arts education organization founded in 1950 with the dual purpose of educating members and the general public in all aspects of ceramics. The history of the League reflects a considerable cultural economic and social impact on the South Florida Community.
