Casa Familia was founded in 2015 by eight families who shared a fear for the uncertain future of their loved ones with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The founders experienced firsthand the lack of affordable housing and community engagement opportunities available for individuals with IDD, especially as they reach adulthood. A passion to address this void led them to their mission. Their determination to ensure a best-practice model inspired them to recruit a team of professionals with the expertise to help reach their goal. With the guidance of a professional Board of Directors and the support of local and state government, Casa Familia's dreams are becoming a reality. Through hard work and dedication, Casa Familia has become a leading sponsor and advocate of affordable housing communities for individuals with IDD in South Florida.
Casa Familia is developing the first-of-its-kind enriched affordable housing community for adults with IDD and other related disabilities in South Florida - the Village of Casa Familia. Through generous support and guidance from public and private partnerships, Casa Familia is creating a multi-phase affordable residential community designed to serve the needs of a broad spectrum of individuals with IDD. Phase I will consist of 50 spacious one- and two-bedroom apartments that can accommodate approximately 60 adults, and an 11,000 square foot state-of-the-art community center. Phase II will be for individuals needing a higher level of support who will live in multi-bedroom homes and have round-the-clock support services as needed. In addition, there will be robust activities and services tailored for them.
Casa Familia is dedicated to creating sustainable, enriched and affordable housing communities, with features, amenities and services designed to benefit adults with intellectual, developmental, and other related disabilities.
