ThumbsUp International has focused on our Race2Educate program. We believed that change begins with our youth. We hold sessions in schools where we present able-bodied and disabled athletes competing together in a variety of athletic events. We show videos and have an in-depth Q&A with students from elementary schools to colleges in hopes they will adopt a healthy lifestyle that is inclusive of people with a range of abilities. We encourage students to consider pairing up with our athletes or amongst themselves to participate in races together. The take-aways focus on inclusivity, teamwork, perseverance, and reaching goals.
ThumbsUp pays the registration fees and provides all the logistics for our teams at the Superintendent's 5K and UPS 5K races. We have registered as many as 80 athletes of all ages and abilities in a single event. ThumbsUp also organizes teams to compete in triathlons which involve more specialized equipment such as bike carriers, racing chairs, and inflatable kayaks.
At the more elite level ThumbsUp participates in prestigious endurance events like the Miami and NYC marathons, as well as Ironman-distance triathlons nation-wide and internationally. We garner considerable media attention and have set three Guinness Book World Records.
We leverage our involvement in these races by producing Emmy-award winning documentaries and disseminating our efforts through social media and our website.
