Throughout the past 60 years, Miami Villagers have worked to protect and save every unique piece of the rich cultural patchwork under the umbrella known as “Miami,” awarding 275 grants to over 100 local endangered sites and organizations.
Fueled solely by the efforts of a diverse volunteer membership (with no staff), Miami Villagers have underwritten studies allowing organizations to qualify for additional funding sources; A/C systems to preserve valuable historic documents from tropical climate; skilled artisans to restore historic paintings, furniture, and fixtures; lightning prevention systems to protect culturally significant sites; curated signage to increase awareness; educational books and videos to showcase hidden sites to the public; emergency cleanup from hurricane damage; and restoration of buildings.
Taking the long view to support training of future skilled preservationists, the Miami Villagers have also been a leader in funding Florida-based university scholarships. More than 240 exceptional students studying architecture and historic preservation have received scholarships.
