Healthy Smiles Shouldn't Depend on a ZIP Code

In many of Miami’s neighborhoods, generations of disinvestment have left families with almost no access to preventive dental care. No insurance. No transportation. No dentist who speaks their language. For a child, that means untreated pain that disrupts sleep, nutrition, speech, and school. For a parent, it can mean choosing between a dental visit and a day's wages. For a senior, it can mean a treatable infection turning into an emergency room visit. Oral health, like opportunity, should never be determined by your ZIP code.

Neighborhood Dental Care Center (NDCC) exists to change that.

We are a 501(c)(3) organization built to bring comprehensive, affordable, culturally competent dental care directly into Miami's most underserved neighborhoods — not by waiting for families to find their way into a fragmented system, but by meeting them where they already are: in schools, senior centers, faith communities, and shelters, in the languages they speak — English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole.

Our Model: Education First

Before treatment comes trust. Before trust comes education. That belief shapes everything we do:

· Community Education — Culturally grounded oral health education that empowers families to prevent disease before it starts.

·  Prevention Programs — Screenings, sealants, fluoride treatments, and early intervention that stop small problems from becoming painful, expensive ones.

·  Mobile Access — A fully equipped mobile dental unit that eliminates the transportation barrier entirely, bringing free and low-cost care directly to the neighborhood.

·  Strategic Partnerships — Collaborations with local universities and colleges that train the next generation of equity-focused dental professionals while expanding our reach.

·  Whole-Person Referrals — Connecting patients not just to dental care, but to housing, food security, and transportation resources, because oral health is only one piece of a family's stability.

A Three-Year Plan Built for Lasting Change

Our strategy is deliberately phased, so every dollar builds toward something sustainable:

Year 1 — Foundations. 

We're launching our Community Oral Health Education Program across all five target neighborhoods, forming university and social-service partnerships, and hosting our first Community Health Forum. Goal: reach 500 residents, deliver 10 workshops, sign 3 university partnerships, and raise $150,000 to fund it all.

Year 2 — Mobilization. 

We deploy our mobile dental unit for a pilot in Allapattah and Overtown, aiming to serve 300 patients directly and build the data and operations playbook to scale citywide.

Year 3 — Expansion & Sustainability. 

We open a permanent base in Allapattah, expand mobile services to Liberty City, West Grove, Little Havana and Little Haiti, and launch a sliding-fee membership model so care stays affordable while covering a growing share of our own costs — targeting 1,000 patients served annually.

Altogether, this plan will put over 1,800 residents directly into dental chairs over three years, and reach thousands more through education and prevention — building a replicable model for closing health equity gaps across Miami.

A child who gets a sealant before a cavity forms stays in school. A parent who understands prevention doesn't lose a day's pay to a dental emergency. A senior who's screened early avoids a costly hospital visit. Every workshop, every mobile visit, every referral is a step toward a Miami where healthy smiles — and the opportunities they protect — reach every neighborhood, not just some of them.
