The Poetry Potluck

The Poetry Potluck’s 2025 gatherings built on our initiative to activate historically black spaces throughout South Florida. We will celebrate the power of poetry, music, and art exploration while honoring the history of these spaces and creating a platform for community, conversation, connection, and culture.  

The organization is deeply committed to several core values that define its essence:

Building Community through Connection: The Poetry Potluck creates an atmosphere reminiscent of a family reunion, where participants, referred to as "CUZZINs," gather to connect, engage, and build meaningful relationships. The community is characterized by shared perspectives, common interests, and access to resources.

Shifting Culture through Conversation: The organization believes in the transformative power of conversation. It fosters dialogue and exchanges of thoughts, often leading to the creation of something new, much like a mosaic made of words. Diverse perspectives challenge preconceived notions, contributing to the growth and enrichment of the culture.

Making All Spaces Learning Spaces: The Poetry Potluck transforms every gathering space, from the Family Room to the Backyard and even the restroom, into opportunities for learning, exploration, and discovery. The intention is to promote a mindset where learning is a continuous process, achieved through seizing "AH-HA moments," leveraging "Teachable moments," and acknowledging "Small Victories."
