Skills 4 Society helps Miami-Dade youth build practical skills and confidence for life beyond the classroom. Our mentorship program serves girls ages 13–17 in foster care through hands-on experiences that give them space to learn, ask questions, try new things, and see what is possible for their futures.

A Skills 4 Society class might take place in a kitchen, a bank, a recording studio, or a local business. Entrepreneurs and professionals across Miami open their doors to host our youth, turning what they do every day into a lesson they can share. Together, we are turning the city into a community of advocates, each contributing what they do best.

Participants have practiced meal planning and cooking, explored banking and credit, created résumés and vision boards, learned about hygiene and hair care, and developed their voices through public speaking and storytelling. We also make room for emotional intelligence, wellness, creativity, and career exploration. Every class gives a young person more than a new skill: it introduces them to someone working in that field and opens a door to explore an internship or career path if it sparks their interest. Each experience helps them make informed choices and move toward independence with support.

Our work also responds to an immediate need in the community. Through the Skills 4 Society food bank and our distribution partners, we provide food to Miami-Dade families twice a week. The food bank has served more than 2,100 people to date. For families facing a hard week, access to groceries can bring relief while they focus on everything else they are carrying.

These two parts of our mission belong together. We want young people to have the tools to build their futures, and we want families in our community to have support today.
