Since 2017, SEED Urban Ministries, Inc. has faithfully served as a beacon of hope and transformation — rooted in faith, motivated by love, and committed to bringing emotional health and healing to children, youth, families, and communities across the United States, Central America, and South America. However, the heart of our ministry is in South Florida.

Our Mission

We exist to Strengthen, Empower, Educate & Develop through holistic, faith‐infused support. We believe every person has dignity and purpose, and we walk alongside individuals in their journey toward healing, resilience, and spiritual growth. 

To achieve this, we center our work around four pillars:

1. Christ‐Centered Mentoring Relationships
2. Best Practices Prevention Programs (evidence-based and outcome-driven)
3. Community Collaboration (engaging multiple sectors using models like CADCA’s 12-sector framework)
4. Development & Implementation of Environmental Strategies for systemic change 

What We Do

• Pastoral Care & Counseling — for individuals, couples, families, blended families, youth, and children; helping navigate crisis, domestic violence, addiction, transitions, and relational challenges. 
• Prevention & Educational Programs — We design and deliver evidence‐based prevention curricula to reduce risk and build resilience. 
• Support Groups & Mentoring — Online and in-person groups (e.g. anxiety support, peer mentoring) foster connection, belonging, and mutual encouragement.
• Best Practices Prevention Initiatives — including programs like the Alcohol Literacy Challenge (ALC), LifeSkills Training (LST), DARE to Be You (DTBY), Strengthening Families Program (SFP), Parent Cafés, and Photovoice projects. These are backed by research, tailored to communities, and designed to empower participants to thrive. 

Each program is crafted not simply to “help,” but to equip. We aim to give participants tools, insight, and relationships they can carry forward into every arena of life.

Who We Are

SEED was founded by Pastor Gil Contreras, who brings over 28 years of pastoral leadership and 30 years of counseling experience across youth, addiction, domestic violence, and family systems.

We’re also blessed by a dedicated team and growing leaders, including his stepdaughter Kristine Bover, serving as Marketing & Social Media Director and a youth & young adult mentor.
