"Give with joy" is one of several calls-to-action we use at The Salvation Army to convey our mission in a succinct way.
It means many things.
Give with hope.
Give with love.
Give with generosity.
Give with confidence.
Give with peace of mind.
Give with reassurance.
Give with ROI.
ROI as in Return on Investment.
Naturally, when you make a donation, you expect and demand the maximum bang for your buck.
We couldn’t agree more.
We’ve been doing this since 1865.
We are an international household name.
Apologies for bragging, but only three philanthropy organizations have the global, cross-border brand name recognition The Salvation Army has.
We are a global brand, like Coca-Cola or Apple.
We have presence in every single zip code in the US.
In Spanish-speaking countries, for instance, we are aptly known as El Ejército de Salvación.
See, we are not a niche charity initiative focused on one specific area.
At a risk of exaggerating, we literally do it all in the philanthropy space.
From preventing and combating human trafficking to music education.
From homeless shelters for individuals and families to financial support and tutoring.
From massive deployments of meals to remedy food insecurity to addiction rehabilitation.
From Disaster Emergency Services in the wake of earthquakes, hurricanes, or terrorist attacks to Bible studies.
From prayer services to thrift stores.
From Christmas gifts for children in need (our tradition Apple Tree initiative) to benefit pickleball tournaments (coming soon to a neighborhood near you).
The list is long.
Very long.
That’s why another slogan we usually use is “Doing the most good”.
In short: it is not easy to explain what we do in one easy catchphrase.
See, we’ve been innovating in the philanthropy field literally for generations and, for that very reason, we’ve learned to apply tried & true, battle-hardened methods that deliver RESULTS.
We are big, hundreds of thousands of employees and millions of volunteers work hard under our umbrella, yet, conversely, we run a very lean organization.
Efficiency is key to our mission.
We know how to avoid friction and waste in our day-to-day operations.
We are proud to say that 87 cents out of every dollar we receive go straight to those who need them most.
In Miami since 1913.
Yup: 112 years and counting.
We have facilities in four locations throughout Miami-Dade.
Unfortunately, we have continued to see a significant rise in the number of people seeking assistance in the county.
Over half of households struggle to afford basic needs, with 527,000 households falling below the ALICE threshold (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed). This means they are either in poverty or income-constrained despite being employed. Key findings include a high cost of living, with the Household Survival Budget for a family of four in Miami-Dade reaching $89,844, which determines that nearly 60% of residents are spending more than 30% of their income on rent.
In this challenging context, during 2024 we provided:-582,840 food box meals and 149,816 hot meals
-Housing and emergency shelter for men, women, children, and veterans at our 270-bed Center of Hope Allapattah facility, also known as The Center of Hope.
-Free access to healthcare in our on-site health resource center. Providing on-site healthcare decreases the number of clients visits to the emergency room.
-Music programs for hundreds of kids annually, free of charge
-Our school supply assistance program, Apple Tree, which provides much needed support to over a thousand kids every season
Our case managers provide resources for affordable housing for entire families, getting all members involved and moving in a positive and healthy manner to achieve independence and to break the cycle of generational poverty.
Join us for the Christmas Choo-Choo Express!
