With its proximity to the ocean, Miami is deeply connected to and reliant on the health of coral reefs. Coral reefs not only protect our coasts from storms and erosion but also sustain marine biodiversity and support our local economy through tourism and fisheries. By supporting SECORE, you are helping ensure that Miami and other coral-rich regions continue to thrive in the face of environmental challenges.

What we do:

At SECORE our mission is clear: Creating and sharing the tools and technologies to sustainably restore coral reefs worldwide.

And our vision strong and ever-present: A world where thriving coral reefs support healthy oceans for future generations!

Our Wave-Breakers by Paul SelvaggioSECORE International develops efficient and cost-effective technologies & methods, which are implemented through our practitioner network, worldwide. Our coral restoration approach is focused on breeding genetically diverse, and most importantly more heat-resistant coral, using their own mode of reproduction. We are bringing stronger coral back to damaged reefs to give coral reefs a fighting chance for the futureLearn more

Our baby corals on Florida's Reefs by Hannah Ditzler

Our bred corals are growing on Florida's reefs! SECORE's team in Miami is conducting research in collaboration with partner institutions & organizations, and also replenishing degraded reefs by bringing back corals bred using SECORE's approach. These corals have been scientifically proven to be more heat-resistant than their wild counterparts. Read more

Our Work in Miami:

We have been part of a multifaceted approach to advance coral breeding and restoration in South Florida – the backyard of our Miami-based staff – working to safeguard Florida's coasts and communities.

For example, as co-lead of a project within the Reefense program combining the build-up of shore protections and coral reefs at the same time. SECORE is also part of the "Florida Re5 Hub: Resilient Reef Research, Rescue, and Restoration” or “Re5” for short, a NOAA-funded grant and ambitious project that aims to implement and scale-up new approaches to increase the climate resilience of Florida’s restored coral reefs.

Coral populations in Florida are in dire conditions, making our research and restoration work of the highest priority. You can support us in this–donate today!

We are tirelessly working to give Coral Reefs a fighting chance for the future!

Your donation will contribute to the protection and restoration of coral reefs, helping to secure the future of these vital ecosystems for generations to come.

Mission

Our focus is breeding genetically diverse corals using our tools, which enable us to get huge numbers of coral babies and bring those back to the Reefs. We do this by collecting coral germ cells during natural spawning events on the reef, while supporting the corals' genetic diversity and consequently promoting reef resilience at the same time. We develop tools to raise corals without the need for sophisticated land-based facilities and to bring them back to the wild in more efficient ways. We are dedicated to giving coral reefs a fighting chance for the future!

Established as a nonprofit organization in 2015, SECORE takes a unique approach to close the gap to scale in reef restoration.

OUR MISSION: CREATING AND SHARING THE TOOLS AND TECHNOLOGIES TO SUSTAINABLY RESTORE CORAL REEFS WORLDWIDE.

OUR VISION: A WORLD WHERE THRIVING CORAL REEFS SUPPORT HEALTHY OCEANS FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS.
