Sisters On The Move, Inc

Sisters On The Move, Inc has hosted events annually in the Florida City Community since December 2019. In December of 2019, my organization was able to provide Christmas gifts and food for over 200 youth in the community. In March 2020, we prepared food for 180 youth in the community and had volunteers deliver the food to the low socioeconomic areas in Florida City. In July 2020, we hosted our first annual Back to School Summer Fest and were able to provide 301 bookbags filled with school supplies as well as food to all school-aged children. In November 2020, we hosted a Turkey Drive which provided 75 families with a turkey and a large bag of groceries for Thanksgiving. In December 2020, we hosted our first annual Winter Festival which included over 350 toys, a game truck, music, food, a performance from Mays Conservatory of the Arts Marching Band and Flagettes, and the youth defeated Metro Dade Police Officers in flag football. In July of 2021, we hosted another Back-to-School Summer Festival which included the Miami Dade Public Library Mobile, Colgate Bright Smiles Mobile, Game Truck, CHI Clinic, and book bags filled with school supplies for 300 youth. In December, we drove into low socio-economic areas with the support of the Mayor Otis Wallace of the City of Florida City, and Metro Dade Police Department to distribute toys in our community. In July 2022, we hosted a Back-to-School Summer Fest and were able to distribute 140 book bags filled with school supplies, uniforms, and food.
Our goal for 2022-2023 is to open an after-school tutoring center to assist students with their homework, and critical thinking skills, as well as target content areas where students demonstrate deficiency.
