The Roots Collective is an organization of ambitious visionaries that initially was dedicated to the economic growth, social awareness, and self-sufficiency of Black and Brown communities.

Since the passing of our Founder, Danny Agnew, we’ve focused our mission on Roots Bookstore & Market, a project dedicated to his life and legacy. This space embodies Danny’s vision by empowering our community through literacy, culture, and connection.

Our shelves feature new and used works from local and independent authors, alongside classic and contemporary literature that reflects our culture, our struggles, and our triumphs.

We are more than a bookstore, a community hub and a gathering place for conversations, workshops, wellness events, local vendors, and initiatives that nourish both the mind and the spirit.

At Roots Bookstore & Market, we believe books are more than pages and are seeds that help communities grow. Through partnerships with local organizations, authors, artists, and residents, we’re redefining what a neighborhood bookstore can be: a place where stories meet service and where every visitor becomes part of a larger movement rooted in love, learning, and liberation.
