The Posse Foundation began in 1989 because of one student who said, “I never would have dropped out of college if I had my posse with me.” This idea gave rise to an innovative national program aimed at identifying diverse, urban public high-school students with exceptional leadership talents, who can achieve academic success at top- tier partner colleges and universities. Partner schools admit these students as "posses" of 10, providing full-tuition, merit scholarships and crucial peer support. Through a comprehensive high school through college program, Posse ensures that its Scholars graduate with the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources to become strong, inclusive leaders in their professional careers.
Since its founding, Posse has selected and trained more than 15,000 Posse Scholars. These young people have won $2.65 billion in full-tuition, merit-based scholarships from Posse’s partner colleges and universities and graduate at a rate of 90 percent. Posse currently has 80 partnerships with top-tier institutions of higher education and is currently supporting more than 4,200 Scholars nationwide with Pre-Collegiate Training, the Campus Program and the Career Program. To date, more than 9,300 Posse alumni are succeeding as leaders in every industry in the workforce and this number will continue to grow. Posse is developing a network of inclusive leaders who reflect the rich diversity of the American people and can help build a more just and equitable society.
Posse Miami: Established in 2009, Posse Miami has served 915 outstanding young leaders who have received $189 million in scholarships from our partner schools. Today, Posse Miami is supporting 284 Scholars in the program and boasts more than 500 alumni.

The Posse model works for both students and college campuses and is rooted in the belief that a small, diverse group of talented students—a Posse—carefully selected and trained, can serve as a catalyst for individual and community development. As the United States becomes an increasingly multicultural society, Posse believes that the leaders of the 21st century should reflect the country’s rich demographic mix. The key to a promising future for our nation rests on the ability of strong leaders from diverse backgrounds to develop consensus solutions to complex social problems. Posse’s primary aim is to train these leaders of tomorrow.
The Posse program works toward the following three goals:
1. To expand the pool from which top colleges and universities can recruit outstanding young leaders from diverse backgrounds.
2. To help these institutions build more interactive campus environments so that they can be more welcoming for people from all backgrounds.
3. To ensure that Posse Scholars persist in their academic studies and graduate so they can take on leadership positions in the workforce.
