Launched in 2010 by Rosa de la Cruz, and continued in her memory by Carlos de la Cruz, Sr., the Knight Foundation, the Key Biscayne Community Foundation, Oolite Arts, and the broader community, the program reflects a deep belief in education through experience.
To date, more than 300 students have participated, visiting cities including Paris, Venice, Berlin, Florence, Beijing, and Amsterdam. Each curated trip integrates daily museum visits, site-specific tours, artist studio visits, and opportunities for cultural immersion, offering critical context for students’ creative practices and a deeper understanding of global art history.
More than just sightseeing, the program fosters independence, cross-cultural literacy, and intellectual growth. Students have walked the halls of the Louvre, scaled the Great Wall of China, and engaged in meaningful dialogue with artists, curators, and scholars abroad.
This transformative initiative honors Rosa de la Cruz’s legacy of generosity and belief in the potential of young artists, serving as a bridge between academic study and global cultural engagement.
To empower the next generation of artists through immersive, international experiences that expand their creative, intellectual, and cultural horizons. This program connects students to the world’s artistic and historical centers, fostering critical dialogue, cultural literacy, and a deeper understanding of global art practices.
