This year Miami Dade College proudly celebrates the centennial anniversary of the Freedom Tower, operated by MOAD. A beloved National Historic Landmark, the Freedom Tower has stood as a testament to the people and stories that built Miami. From its origins as the home of Miami's oldest newspaper to its poignant chapter as El Refugio, welcoming over 400,000 refugees, the Freedom Tower has symbolized the spirit of hope and opportunity that define Miami. For the past two years, MDC has dedicated unwavering care and passion toward a transformative restoration of the Freedom Tower. The Tower has reopened its doors once again, with exhibitions including Libertad, Languages of Migration, We Carry Our Homes With Us, and Unidad: The World's Game, ready to inspire a new generation with its history and its renewed purpose. The Freedom Tower continues to serve as a gathering space for hands on artmaking education programs, including GOGO MOAD and MOAD Moves. As we reflect on a century of history, we honor the Freedom Tower's role as a beacon of resilience, and we recommit to serving as its steadfast steward. Ensuring its stories, spirit, and significance endure for the next 100 years will require the continued support, engagement, and passion of our community.
