In the spring of 2003, the Michael Scholz Memorial Charitable Fund was established in order to keep Michael's memory alive. Tragically Michael's life ended too soon, but through the fund and in partnership with the Biscayne Nature Center, Michael's Magic Camp celebrates his passion and honors the magical way in which he brought people together and touched lives.
The Camp's mission is to teach young campers how to preserve and protect South Florida's fragile environment and ecosystem. Special emphasis is placed on reaching youth who face challenges, such as those who live at or below the Federal poverty line, and others who lack opportunities to experience South Florida's unique tropical beauty. The hope is that environmental education will increase admiration and respect for nature, resulting in a desire to protect and better care for our fragile ecosystem. Every summer 50 to 60 young campers, who never had an opportunity to meet Michael, walk away enriched through his legacy.

Mission
The mission of Michael's Magic Camp, at the Biscayne Nature Center, is to teach young campers how to preserve and protect South Florida's fragile environment and ecosystem. Special emphasis is placed on reaching youth who face challenges, such as those who live at or below the federal poverty line, who are mentally or physically disabled or abused, and others who lack opportunities to experience South Florida's unique tropical beauty. The expectation is that environmental education will increase admiration and respect for nature, resulting in a desire to protect and better care for our fragile environmental ecosystem. It is through the camp's diverse initiatives that young people learn about the environment.
