Authors Are the Heart of the Miami Book Fair

Authors are what make the Miami Book Fair such a special and influential literary event. They bring books to life, offering attendees the rare opportunity to hear directly from the voices behind the stories.

They build community—drawing people together, whether through shared interests or divergent perspectives—by leading sessions that spark discussion, debate, and reflection.

They mirror Miami itself through their wide range of voices, languages, and experiences, making the Fair a true reflection of both global and local culture.

Since our founding in 1984, more than 12,000 authors from around the world have shared their stories and ideas on our stages. Our presenting authors have included some of the most beloved, popular, and critically acclaimed writers of our time—Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winners, National Book Award honorees, Poet Laureates, and even past and future Presidents. The Fair celebrates diverse perspectives, fostering a vibrant exchange between writers and readers.

However, as travel and hospitality costs continue to rise—and as publisher-sponsored author tours decline—the need to support visiting writers has become increasingly urgent. Today, nearly three-quarters of participating authors receive no publisher support for travel or lodging.

To address these challenges and ensure that diverse and vital literary voices remain at the heart of the Fair, we have established the Authors Fund—a dedicated initiative to cover the growing costs of bringing writers to Miami and to sustain the Fair’s hallmark quality and inclusivity.

The Authors Fund ensures the continued participation of writers—especially emerging and literary authors of fiction, narrative nonfiction, and poetry—who might otherwise face financial barriers to attending.
