Miamibloco - Samba Percussion Community

Miamibloco is an inclusive intergenerational percussion collective providing South Florida with a tangible and accessible approach to combat socio-economic isolation through workshops, programs, and performances for people of all ages. We engage children, adults and seniors through 4 programs: Bateria Saideira (performance),  Bateria Academy (study series), Community workshops, and MiamiblocoKids.

At Miamibloco we break language barriers and provide accessibility by using hand signals to communicate and develop rhythms.  Our programs currently provide access to professional samba instruments and instruction to over 430 youth and adult students each season. In the summer, Bateria Saideira mentors over 500 students across Miami-Dade public schools, providing access to group percussion education to underserved children.

We believe that joy is a birthright, and have seen the interpersonal connections created through Miamibloco, turn into friendships, economic opportunities, and musical cross-cultural collaborations, proving that the conversations created through drumming, translate into long -lasting human connections that make Miami a place to live, work and truly play!

VISION:

The vision of Miamibloco is to create communities of care and trust,  through intergenerational percussion experiences. We envision Miami as a network of resilient neighborhoods where vibrant & engaged citizens of all ages enrich their lives and enliven their neighborhoods one beat at a time, through playing drums together in public spaces.
