In Miami-Dade County, many young people face significant barriers to achieving their full potential, including socio-economic challenges, lack of access to quality educational resources, and limited exposure to positive role models.

Currently, our program continues to recruit and train dedicated mentors from diverse backgrounds who provide guidance, support, and encouragement to young people. Mentors and mentees participate in regular meetings, group activities, and workshops, all designed to foster personal growth, academic achievement, and social-emotional well-being.

When you donate to Lockhart Cares, Inc, no matter how little or big the amount, your contribution allows us to make a real difference in lives of Miami Dade County Youth.

Your financial contribution supports the following:

  • Enabling ongoing supervision and relationship support for every mentor, youth and the youth’s family
  • Providing cultural and social activities to enrich the opportunities for youth

This summer, we successfully launched our inaugural Summer Jammers Camp. In addition to the camp activities, we provided nutritious hot breakfasts and lunches for both our campers and the surrounding Liberty City community. The camp was graciously hosted at the Greater Harvest Baptist Church, which generously donated the site.

We ensured reliable transportation to and from the camp and organized free field trips each week. These excursions offered campers enriching experiences such as horseback riding, swimming, attending movies, and visiting a senior citizen home, where they had the unique opportunity to "adopt" a grandparent for the day. Throughout these activities, campers also acquired valuable skills, including painting, reading an analog clock, and understanding nonverbal communication.

As we enter the Miami Day donation season, we aim to raise funds for our 2025 Summer Jammers Camp. Our goal is to reach more children, expand our field trip offerings, and provide additional opportunities for students to engage with STEM subjects.

Furthermore, we hope to secure enough funding to incorporate teachers who can assist with reading and math skills, helping to mitigate the learning loss that often occurs during the summer months.
