Champions of Tomorrow: Sports • Culture • Wellness • Leadership • Community & Economic Development

VISION:

A healthy, safe, and thriving community where youth, families, and elders have access to world-class sports training, wellness programs, cultural heritage experiences, and leadership pathways—right in the neighborhood built by Miami’s earliest Black and Bahamian pioneers.

PARENT ORGANIZATION OF:

  • Coconut Grove Sports Hall of Fame
  • Taste of Coco Bahamas Cultural Exchange
  • Little Bahamas Youth & Family Sports, Wellness, Fitness & Recreation Center
  • Legends Banner Program

STATEMENT OF NEED:

Little Bahamas—Miami’s oldest Black and Bahamian community—has endured decades of underinvestment, school closures, displacement, and the loss of safe recreation spaces.

A defining part of this history is “The Muck,” the open field where generations of athletes—including Olympic Gold Medalist Gerald Tinker—trained. Today, this historic site faces:

  • Unsafe athletic conditions
  • Lack of maintenance and lighting
  • No modern recreation or wellness facilities

To restore opportunity, health, and pride, the community urgently needs a new Youth & Family Sports, Wellness, Fitness & Recreation Center, along with environmental restoration of The Muck.

🌱 SEED FUNDING GOAL: Little Bahamas Youth & Family Sports, Wellness & Recreation Center

Your Give Miami Day support will launch planning, environmental restoration, and early program activation for the new center, including:

Youth & Family Sports

Safe training spaces, coaching, structured play, and athletic development.

Wellness & Fitness

Family fitness classes, senior wellness, movement programs, and nutrition education.

Environmental Restoration

Drainage upgrades, soil remediation, and redevelopment of The Muck athletic grounds.

Leadership Development

Workshops, mentorship, and pathways to academic and athletic success.

🏆 Coconut Grove Sports Hall of Fame

Pathways to Economic, Academic & Athletic Success

The Hall of Fame anchors programs that create real opportunity for youth and families, including:

  • Hall of Fame Awards Gala – Annual celebration and fundraiser for youth programs
  • Sports-Oriented Career Training (Off the Field) – Broadcasting, coaching, fitness training, officiating, event production, sports medicine literacy, sports management, and STEAM in sports
  • Mentorship Programs – Pairing youth with Hall of Fame athletes, coaches, and sports professionals
  • Workshops & Scholarships – Supporting youth participation in clinics, camps, certification programs, and leadership sessions
  • “Sports Save Lives” Initiative – Using athletics for wellness, prevention, emotional health, and community safety

These programs ensure athletics becomes a pipeline to education, careers, leadership, and lifelong wellbeing.
