Child sexual abuse is a silent epidemic impacting families in every zip code in America. 

The reality:

42 million survivors of child sexual abuse live in the United States.
 1 in 3 girls will be sexually abused before age 18.
 1 in 5 boys will be sexually abused before age 18.
1 in 5 children who touches a digital device will be sexually solicited online.

These numbers are heartbreaking — but they are not hopeless.

95% of child sexual abuse is preventable through education and awareness.

Lauren’s Kids exists to turn prevention into protection, awareness into action, and healing into hope.

Lauren’s Kids is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2007 by child sexual abuse survivor and advocate Lauren Book, who transformed her personal pain into purpose by creating an organization dedicated to preventing child sexual abuse and helping survivors heal.

Through prevention education, family resources, survivor support, advocacy, award-winning awareness campaigns, and it's Safer, Smarter Schools K-12 curriculum used in classrooms across the United States and internationally, Lauren’s Kids works to protect children, empower families, educate communities, and support survivors with guidance and hope. In Miami-Dade, this work is carried into classrooms, homes, neighborhoods, and community spaces through trusted local partnerships with organizations such as Kristi House, MUJER, the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, law enforcement agencies, and other community partners. Together, these efforts help bring prevention education, trusted resources, awareness, and hope to children and families across our community — equipping more than 20,000 Miami-Dade caregivers and children with practical tools to prevent abuse, build safe communication, understand boundaries, create safety plans, and access help when needed.

Walk in My Shoes, Lauren’s Kids’ signature statewide awareness walk, carries this mission across Florida. In 2027, the Walk will mark its 12th year, continuing its 1,500-mile journey from Key West to Tallahassee to raise awareness, support survivors, protect children, and remind every survivor: You are not alone. It’s OK to tell. It’s OK to heal.
