Who We Are

I.I.P.A. (Italian International Parents Association) is a non-profit organization based in Miami, Florida, founded in 2009 by a passionate group of parents whose children were enrolled in the Magnet program at G.W. Carver Elementary and Middle School. Since then, I.I.P.A. has grown and now supports Italian language and culture in several Miami-Dade County public schools, including the renowned Magnet high school, International Studies Preparatory Academy (I.S.P.A.), where a robust Italian language and culture program thrives. Recently, the prestigious Maritime and Science Technology Academy (M.A.S.T.)  has joined again I.I.P.A. in planning activities to support its Italian program.

We are committed to enriching the educational experience of students with our shared Italian heritage.

We understand the importance of preserving Italian culture and language as a valuable intangible cultural heritage for humanity. This is why, despite challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, we remain determined to carry out our mission and continue growing. Our work is driven by the dedication of Italian teachers and families, as we strive to support and represent the Italian language and culture community in Miami-Dade.

                                                                 GOALS for this 2024:

In 2024, our goal is to strengthen Italian Programs by:

  • Organizing Miami’s first Venetian Carnevale, a cultural celebration with an educational purpose for students and the broader community.
  • Providing instructional materials and classroom resources to enhance learning experiences.
  • Facilitating professional development and seminars for Italian language teachers to support their continued growth.
  • Offering salary assistance to retain and attract highly qualified teachers.

We believe that strengthening Italian programs enables schools to provide top-quality education that aligns with Italian Government standards for language.

IIPA’s commitment is to inspire our students to reach significant academic achievements, such as completing AP-level courses by Middle School and enabling High School graduates to pursue dual diplomas that meet the criteria for entry into higher education in Italy.

Mission

At I.I.P.A., our mission is to promote and support the teaching of Italian language and culture in local public schools. We organize a variety of initiatives and cultural events that provide students and families with enriching experiences that deepen their appreciation for Italian heritage. Our events, such as Pranzo Italiano, Lasagna Day, Festa della Befana, Carnevale, cooking classes, and Italian cinema nights, are just a few examples of how we share the richness of Italy’s traditions.

We are particularly focused on expanding the curriculum to include Italian culture, history, and literature; collaborating with Italian language teachers to provide them with essential learning materials such as books, multimedia resources, and technology to enhance the educational experience; and creating cultural events that invite the broader community to engage and celebrate Italian heritage. Additionally, we strive to connect students with Italian authors, artists, and other cultural representatives, providing opportunities for them to engage directly with these figures and gain deeper insights into Italy’s cultural and intellectual legacy.

How You Can Make a Difference
