El Vuelo de la Cometa provides training in emotional intelligence skills thus students improve their ability to recognize and decide how to respond to their emotions, improve their ability to understand the emotions of others, decrease apathy, isolation, and demotivation. We support undeserved students that often lack parental support, lack mentors and role models that provide encouragement. Youth in underserved areas have low self-esteem and an lack crisis coping and resiliency skills. Our work has never been more critical, by nurturing teens' autonomy and giving students opportunities to develop leadership and decision-making skills, we are preparing them to become confident and motivated to pursue their dreams and goals.
Mission
The Ismael Cala Foundation promotes emotional intelligence leadership and educational programs for vulnerable Hispanic children and adolescents in the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean. Our program enables youth to achieve their greatest potential through social emotional learning and mindfulness.
Our main program, The Flight of the Kite / El Vuelo de la Cometa, empowers youth in middle & high schools by developing leadership skills, emotional intelligence and
resiliency strategies to enhance their emotional wellbeing. We provide summer camps and after school interventions.
We collaborate with local nonprofit and global organizations, academic institutions and companies. We align to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), our programs contribute to SDG 3 Good Health and Wellbeing, SDG 4 Quality Education and SDG 16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
