HOPE Murals - An Arts-Based-Character-Development Program Model

WHO WE ARE

HOPE Murals provides incarcerated youth with an interactive experience of self-reflection translated into an artistic expression of HOPE. HOPE Murals facilitates programming intended to engage participants in group activities, challenging them to think critically and creatively about the concept of HOPE, as it applies to their personal journey, both past and future.  The goal(s) of the mural project model are to accomplish the following objectives:

• Explore creative ideas that stimulate Self-Reflection 
• Execute Art-based activities that promote Self-Awareness
• Experience the transformative power of Self-Efficacy

This 'Experiential' methodology, serves as the foundation for participants to experience the natural process of “Self-Efficacy”, (...an individual's belief in his or her own innate ability to achieve goals", and/or "how well one can execute courses of action required to deal with prospective situations."), which is a critical characteristic of personal development, often lacking in those we serve!

Our vision is to transform the dull walls of the building, to a gallery of beautiful, artistic, inspiring canvases. These transformed walls, filled with motivational vibrant images, symbols and words intended to serve as a catalyst for both the participants, as well as ALL who view them, to 'self-reflect', and provoke the critical thought process that lies within, to challenge oneself to examine 'Where am I', 'Where have I come from' and 'Where do I want to go', on my life journey.
