Gato Gordo Arts Corporation

Gato Gordo Arts is a brand-new, artist-founded nonprofit with a mission to bring free, meaningful arts experiences to the Liberty City community and beyond.

Born out of the work of Gato Gordo Gallery, our organization was created by artists who believe that art should not be a luxury — it should be accessible, inclusive, and rooted in the voices of the community itself. Until now, every event, exhibition, and performance has been fully self-funded by the founders, with no outside financial support.

In our first year, Gato Gordo Arts has:

• Presented free exhibitions spotlighting BIPOC and historically underrepresented artists
• Organized poetry nights, music performances, and multidisciplinary cultural events
• Hosted community art experiences such as body-painting gatherings, community canvases, drawing sessions, and creative open-door meetups
• Provided a platform for emerging and independent artists to present their work, connect, and grow

We believe in the power of art to build community, spark dialogue, and uplift voices that deserve to be seen and heard.

How Your Gift Makes a Direct Impact

Your support helps us keep these programs free and accessible to all. Donations go directly toward:

•  Art Supplies & Materials – paint, canvases, installation materials, lighting, tools, and resources for community art projects

•  Keeping Our Doors Open – covering the costs of maintaining a space where the community can gather, create, and feel welcome

•  Artist Support – small stipends so participating artists are valued and compensated for their time and talent

•  Community Outreach & Visibility – printing flyers, transportation assistance, and sharing opportunities so residents know events are available to them

•  Expanding Free Cultural Programming – helping us offer more public events, performances, and exhibitions throughout the year
