Gato Gordo Arts brings free, meaningful arts experiences to Liberty City and beyond.
Born out of Gato Gordo Gallery, we were founded by artists who believe art shouldn't be a luxury — it should be accessible, inclusive, and rooted in the community itself. Every event, exhibition, and performance has been entirely self-funded by our founders, with no outside financial support, until now.
In our first year, Gato Gordo Arts has:
- Presented free exhibitions spotlighting BIPOC and historically underrepresented artists
- Organized poetry nights, music performances, and multidisciplinary cultural events
- Hosted community art experiences — body-painting gatherings, community canvases, and open studio sessions
- Provided a platform for emerging and independent artists to present, connect, and grow
New this year: Creative Care Program. Founded by our co-founder, a practicing nephrologist, this program brings art directly to people living with kidney disease and other chronic illnesses — from dialysis clinics to our gallery. See our Creative Care tab to learn more.
How Your Gift Makes a Direct Impact
Your support helps us keep these programs free and accessible to all:
-
Art Supplies & Materials — paint, canvases, and tools for community art projects
-
Keeping Our Doors Open — maintaining a space where the community can gather, create, and feel welcome
-
Artist Support — stipends so participating artists are valued for their time and talent
-
Community Outreach — printing, transportation, and sharing opportunities so residents know what's available to them
-
Creative Care — kits and guided sessions bringing art directly to people with kidney disease and other chronic illnesses
Why Give Now
We've built this entirely on personal sacrifice, without a single outside dollar — and it's working. Our name and reputation are growing across Miami. Your gift is what lets us take the next step: paying the artists and organizers who make this possible, and expanding free programming for the community that's already showing up.
