Gang Alternative, Inc. (GA) was birthed out of the need to provide positive alternatives to youth plagued by the realities of living in high violence, high crime communities in Miami-Dade County. When we talk about "Gang Alternative" we are referring to the "gang mentality" that enslaves individuals and families in our communities, keeping them dependent, delinquent and destitute, preventing them from being the best that they can be.

GA provides programs and services under our five pillars of work: Positive Youth Development, Family Strengthening, Health & Wellness, Workforce Development, and Community Upliftment & Partnerships. Some examples of the good work our programs provide are:

  • After-school programs that empower youth to realize their full potential
  • In-home therapy that helps children and their families understand and overcome trauma
  • Programs and services to youth and families impacted by opioid addiction
  • Help people in correctional facilities who are returning to Miami-Dade County prepare for life after release
  • Engage community members in therapy and skill building while uniting local organizations in sharing resources to help reduce violence and trauma in the community.

Scripture tells us that "The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted (Matthew 23:11-12.)." As a faith and community-based organization serving South Florida since 2005, GA is home to a family of servant leaders whose selfless work continues to strategically help individuals to build character that lasts. As dedicated community stewards, we recognize the importance of taking a two-generational approach to community programming so that individuals and families can benefit from holistic interventions geared toward self-sufficiency and good citizenship.

In 2024, GA impacted 19,930 individuals, and served 1,650 households through after school and summer programs, substance abuse prevention services, parent engagement programs, trauma-focused intervention, coalition-building, reentry services, career development, HIV education, care coordination, wrap-around services mentoring, life skills development, and mental health support services.
