Friends of Biscayne Bay

The Friends of Biscayne Bay (FOBB) is a non-profit citizen support organization that focuses on supporting the health and prosperity of the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserves (BBAP). The BBAP was established in 1974 and runs the length of Biscayne Bay proper, from the headwaters of the Oleta River down to Card Sound near Key Largo and encompasses roughly 64,607 submerged acres.

In 2025, Friends of Biscayne Bay continued to grow and strengthen its role as the leading community voice for the health of Biscayne Bay Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserves. Our monthly newsletter audience increased fourfold, now reaching more than 3,300 engaged readers who stay informed about urgent Bay issues and opportunities to take action.

This year, we partnered with Florida International University on a public education and engagement campaign highlighting how land-based activities impact water quality in Biscayne Bay. Through creative social media outreach, we helped connect scientific monitoring with community awareness—amplifying the message that “what we do on the land impacts the Bay.”

We also co-led major volunteer initiatives, including International Coastal Cleanup 2025, Baynanza, and the Ghost Trap Rodeo, mobilizing hundreds of volunteers to remove debris and restore coastal habitats.

As Biscayne Bay continues to face nutrient pollution, seagrass loss, and harmful algal blooms, our work is more vital than ever. Your donation directly supports public education, data-driven advocacy, and community engagement to ensure Biscayne Bay remains a thriving ecosystem at the heart of South Florida’s environmental and economic resilience.
