Food & Water Watch

A nonprofit organization

Using a combination of advocacy, research, organizing and litigation, Food & Water Watch advocates for common sense policies that will result in healthy, safe and sustainably produced food, access to clean water that is managed in the public interest, and a climate that future generations can depend on. To this end, we educate on these problems and advocate for solutions that will protect our food, water and livable climate.

We are a national organization running campaigns to: ban fracking and stop new fossil fuel projects; win moratoriums on factory farms and protect food safety protections; and support our public water systems to ensure clean and affordable water for all people as a human right.

We are so excited to be a part of the Miami-Dade community. We know we are already seeing the effects of climate change and sea level rise in our communities, and Food & Water Watch is bringing people together to fight for a solution. We are working to pass a comprehensive statewide ban on fracking through the legislature, and our team in Miami is critical to making this possible. Our organizers work to educate and organize Spanish-speaking communities in House Speaker Jose Oliva's district in Miami-Dade County. To do that, we have hosted town hall community events, trained and supported student volunteers at Miami Dade College - Hialeah, engaged neighborhoods and religious communities to call or write letters to their representatives, and built coalition of dozens of local businesses to influence House Speaker Oliva, all for the shared goal of stopping climate change and ensuring climate resiliency for Miami and the state of Florida.

We are committed to building community in Miami-Dade County, and are so excited to bring on more staff in the coming months. We are stronger together, and we can make a real change. Are you ready to fight like you live here?

Mission

Our food, water and climate are under constant assault by corporations who put profit over the survival of humanity. They have seized control of the very institutions that were built to protect us. Food & Water Watch mobilizes people to reclaim their political power, hold our elected officials accountable, and resist corporate control--ensuring we all have the essential resources we need to thrive. This is a fight we must win, because this planet is the only one we get.
