Since inception, Florida Organ Transplant Foundation (FOTA) has helped over 10,000 South Florida transplant and organ donor patients and families. FOTA was established in 2002, and thanks to the support of our community, it has grown over the years and is quickly becoming a leader in the transplant community. In 2024, we served nearly 1,0000 families through patient services support including patient-geared gatherings, in-kind holiday and end-of-year support, monthly support groups, and our flagship Emergency Grants Program. Here are a few key stats from the 2024 grants program:
- 46 South Florida transplant families received a one-time emergency grant toward housing, transportation, medication and/or food
- Average grant size was $468
- 74% of grants were distributed through Broward-based hospitals
- $13,251 helped to keep transplant families in their homes and $4,958 toward medicine costs
We are continuing to see an increase in financial hardship within the transplant community, and we are the only safety net organization in South Florida actively providing dollars to families to offset expenses for basic necessities. Please join us and help make the difference in the lives of our neighbors, of local transplant families.
