Florida Breast Cancer Foundation History

Founded by three Miami women in 1993, the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation (FBCF) has spent more than 33 years working to end the suffering caused by breast cancer. What began in South Florida has grown into a statewide mission supporting Floridians through research, education, advocacy, direct services, and community resources.

Today, with offices in South and Central Florida, our small but mighty team works alongside board members, volunteers, advocates, community partners, and supporters to reach communities across the Sunshine State.

And 100% of the funds we raise stay in Florida—supporting our families, our friends, our neighbors, and our researchers.

Research

Research is how we change the future of breast cancer. FBCF funds innovative and collaborative breast cancer research with the potential to improve prevention, detection, treatment, and outcomes.

Through a rigorous expert review process, we invest in promising research that meets high scientific standards and has the potential to make a meaningful impact in the fight against breast cancer.

Education & Early Detection

At FBCF, we believe knowledge is power—and early detection can save lives.

Our educational initiatives and grant-funded programs promote breast health, increase awareness, support survivors, and work to reduce late-stage breast cancer diagnoses.

FBCF sponsors the MASS (Mammograms After Sunday Service) program which partners with faith communities to bring breast health education and access to mammograms directly into underserved communities, helping eliminate barriers to lifesaving screening.

Advocacy

FBCF gives Floridians a voice in the policies that affect breast cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and survivorship.

Our volunteer advocates engage with state legislators to advance policies that improve access to quality healthcare and protect funding for programs such as Florida’s Mary Brogan Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, which provides lifesaving screenings to thousands of underserved women each year.

Through FBCF Virtual Advocacy Days, Floridians can connect directly with lawmakers and help shape policies affecting the breast cancer community.

The Florida Breast Cancer Foundation Advocacy Fellowship Program further strengthens this work by helping advocates access training that deepens their knowledge, builds their skills, and expands their ability to create change.

Direct Services

A breast cancer diagnosis can create tremendous financial and practical challenges beyond medical treatment.

Through our Direct Services Grant Program, FBCF funds Florida nonprofit organizations providing critical assistance to patients, survivors, and individuals in need—including mammograms, living-expense assistance during treatment, and essential medical items.

By partnering with trusted organizations already serving their communities, we help resources reach Floridians where they are needed most.

No one should have to navigate breast cancer alone.

FBCF connects Floridians with information, resources, and community support throughout their breast cancer journey through staff and volunteers across the state. 

More Ways We Make an Impact

FBCF is the organization behind Florida’s End Breast Cancer specialty license plate, which generates additional funding for breast cancer research and education throughout the state.

Additionally, Pickups for Breast Cancer supports our mission through donations of clothing and household goods.
