$50,000 Goal

A classroom inside a prison. It changes more than you think.

95% of incarcerated people will eventually return home. Very few are given any real chance to rehabilitate while they're inside.
That's where Exchange for Change comes in.

Exchange for Change brings college-level courses inside Florida's prisons, jails, and juvenile facilities.

Education is one of the few things that reliably changes what happens next, for our students and for the communities they return to.

What you make possible

🔆 700+ incarcerated students a year

🔆 3000+ Prison Visit participants

🔆 80% of participants believe education belongs in prison

🔆 3 in 10 would now hire someone with record

🔆 Academic Partners: UM, FIU, FAU & MDC

Education that transforms

Exchange for Change has been teaching inside Florida's correctional facilities since 2014. Our volunteer facilitators, including college professors and seasoned professionals, show up week after week to lead courses in everything from writing and leadership to mindfulness and more. They do it because they share our belief that learning transform lives.

Prison Visits For Change

In partnership with The Frederick Douglass Project for Justice, Exchange for Change brings community members inside Florida's correctional facilities to meet, listen, and converse with incarcerated students. A prison visit changes how you see things. Many visitors describe it as one of the most meaningful experiences of their lives.

Building bridges of understanding

We engage the community through our Reentry Simulation, a fast-paced,  hands-on experience that puts participants in the shoes of someone navigating the first month after release from prison. We aim to spread awareness and empathy for incarcerated individuals' experience reintegrating back into society.
