"Why We Exist

In Miami, too many young people grow up without access to safe, nurturing environments that prepare them for the future. Urban Construction Craft Academy (UCCA) exists to change that reality. Every student deserves the opportunity to discover their potential, gain hands-on skills, and envision a future filled with purpose and possibility.

Our Mission & Vision

UCCA’s mission is to equip young people and adults with real-world construction knowledge, mentorship, and life skills that extend far beyond the classroom. Our vision is to build a stronger, more resilient Miami by preparing the next generation to dream boldly, act responsibly, and contribute meaningfully to their communities."

"Our Programs

UCCA offers all of its programs free of charge, fully supported by donations and grants. These initiatives provide opportunity, structure, and transformation for youth and adults alike: • Crime Prevention Re-Entry Program. This two-fold initiative prevents crime by steering young people in the right direction while also helping adults re-enter the workforce. Participants gain practical construction and repair skills that sustain livelihoods and change lives. • Construction Program – Our signature program for aspiring builders. This comprehensive course prepares participants for successful careers in construction through both classroom instruction and on-the-job training. • Specialty Trade Program – Students master specialized skills such as carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, drywall, electrical work, and flooring. This program empowers participants to turn their skills into careers or even launch their own businesses. • Apprenticeship Program – Designed for adults 21 and older, this Project Management Apprenticeship provides advanced training for leadership roles in construction management.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, English proficiency, and the ability to participate in both classes and on-the-job training.

Program Highlight – The Summer Camp Experience

One of UCCA’s most beloved initiatives is our annual Summer Camp. Designed to mirror our adult program, the camp creates a safe, dynamic space where students learn by doing. They partner with architects, draft blueprints, and use modern tools like SketchUp to design their own 'dream house.' Along the way, they learn not only the technical steps of construction—like electricity, drywall, and flooring—but also the creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork that make a builder successful."

"The Dream House Project

At the heart of the camp is the Dream House Project. Students imagine, design, and refine a home within realistic codes and limitations. This balance of creativity and practicality challenges them to stretch their imaginations while thinking like real-world professionals. By the end of the camp, they leave with not just a project, but a powerful sense of accomplishment and possibility."

"Mentorship & Apprenticeship

What makes UCCA’s approach unique is the integration of mentorship. Alumni of the program return as role models, guiding younger students through the challenges of construction and life. This apprenticeship-style learning not only teaches technical skills but also builds character, confidence, and resilience. Students see firsthand that success is possible, and they are inspired to pursue ambitious goals.

Impact & Outcomes

The results speak for themselves: students leave the camp and programs more mature, motivated, and determined to continue their education. Parents report seeing positive changes at home—from responsibility and accountability to renewed excitement for the future. UCCA participants grow into young leaders who not only dream big but also work hard to achieve their goals."

Community Value & Urgency

Miami needs strong programs like UCCA now more than ever. By giving students alternatives to unsafe environments and introducing them to career pathways in construction, UCCA strengthens families, neighborhoods, and the entire city. Demand for our programs grows every year, but resources remain limited. Give Miami Day is our opportunity to expand our reach, support more students, and continue building a legacy of opportunity.

Giving Activity

Mission

Founded in 2011, UCCA exists to open doors of opportunity for those seeking a fresh start and a brighter future. Through transitional job placement and second-chance training, we equip individuals with the skills and confidence needed to build lasting careers in construction.

Our six-week Construction Summer Camp empowers teens ages 13–17 with hands-on experience, industry exposure, and nationally recognized OSHA-10 certification. More than a camp, it’s a life-changing introduction to the many pathways within the construction industry—complete with field trips to active job sites and practical training that sparks vision, discipline, and purpose.
