The Circle of Brotherhood currently lays claim to five nationally recognized community based transformation initiatives that cover violence prevention, youth mentoring, police training, employment training and community wellness.
Violence Prevention - The work of the Circle of Brotherhood to reduce gun violence has led to Miami Dade County being added to President Biden's 15 now (16) city White House Initiative for direct federal support for community based violence intervention to assist in supporting our best practices. We have been a 4 year partner with The Miami Dade Violence Prevention Collaborative; serving as boots on the ground responding to and preventing hundreds of shootings and neighborhood group conflicts. Our Peacemakers Violence prevention program was recently recognized by Everytown as one of the top 15 gun violence prevention models in the country. We have partnered locally to help form The Healing and Justice Center; a nationally recognized collaborative to address violence from a holistic and trauma informed lens. Help is needed to expand and solidify our work.
Our mentoring program and model has been designated by Urban Strategies Inc. as national model for community based crime and violence reduction. Urban Strategies specializes in community development and design operating in 22 metropolitan areas . We are currently in one Miami neighborhood and this work needs to be expanded. Our Group mentoring model for juveniles in custody or probation has worked to drastically reduce recidivism in Miami Dade County. The Juvenile Detention Center and Success Schools say our impact is by far the most impactful and transformative on this population of youth. We need to increase and expand this work.
Circle of Brotherhood also conducts life skills training for trauma filled populations and we conduct the country's only community based Police Training on Community /Human Relations. We desire to increase theses efforts throughout Dade County.
