Chainless Change is a peer-led organization that was created by and for people with arrest records. We hire and invest in the growth, leadership, and visibility of justice-involved people.
We take a two-pronged approach to addressing the inequities caused by mass incarceration: supporting impacted people and families to heal from contact with the criminal legal system while organizing for systems change. Through tailored strategies, we create opportunities for people to rebuild their lives, restore their dignity, and reconcile with the community.
Through our collective care, community organizing, and issue-based campaign efforts, we urge local decision-makers to prioritize care over cages, housing and healthcare over handcuffs, books over bars, and jobs over jails. We center justice-involved people with behavioral health histories in all of our endeavors, because we are the ones most impacted by the harmful practices that currently exist.
Mission
Deeply rooted in the value of lived experience, Chainless Change, Inc. is a community of recovery, advocacy, and support for those negatively impacted by the criminal legal system. We aim to reduce recidivism and strengthen community health through a holistic approach that includes recovery support services, reentry planning, resource navigation, and self-advocacy education.
