Since the organization's founding in 2013, Buskerfest Miami has produced hundreds of concerts, educational events and professional development sessions for artists - all free-of-charge. Beyond the programming we produce each year, we also act as an informal talent agency, connecting local artists with the private and public sectors for paid performance opportunities. We are artists ourselves and understand the immense challenges facing creatives who wish to live here in Miami while practicing their art full-time.
Two major events bookend our programmatic year:
Make Music Miami - every June 21st, Buskerfest Miami coordinates a collective of presenting organizations in creation of this annual music festival celebrated in over 1,000 cities. The local edition of Make Music Day, Make Music Miami, sees musicians of all skill levels fill public and private spaces to celebrate the arrival of summer with free performances and music-making activities. It is (geographically) the largest music event in South Florida and typically includes over 100 events strategically produced around Miami-Dade County. Our goal is to provide every Miamian with a musical opportunity to kick of summer.
Buskerfest Miami Street Performance Festival - our signature event is a one-of-a-kind festival in Downtown Miami that leverages the MetroMover system. Over 50 performance groups representing dance, music, theatre and the circus arts perform at street level, changing the very character of the neighborhood for one special evening.
Buskerfest Miami is a collaborative organization dedicated to improving civic life through public street performance in Miami-Dade County. We strive for a connected, thriving urban core where the streets of Miami are active and enlivened with local performers and enjoyed by people of all ages and walks of life. We envision a joyous place that is reflective of the tropical urban landscape and attractive to locals and visitors alike. Our methods for enacting this vision include: building a human network of local performers, uniting the private and public sectors for events and performances, advocating for public policy that supports the local arts ecosystem and re-imagining the use and function of Miami's public spaces.
