Books & Books Literary Foundation

The Books & Books Literary Foundation sustains and expands the mission of Books & Books, an independent center of Miami's literary culture since 1982, by nurturing readers, cultivating community, and promoting the free exchange of ideas.

Through our signature programs, like Meet an Author, Build a Library and The Great Big Free Book Fair, and through partnerships with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, The Children's Trust, The Friends of the Miami-Dade Public Library, and Uplift Literacy, we've donated over 25,000 books directly to Miami-Dade residents of all ages who lack easy access.

In the last year, we brought 29 award-winning authors like Edwidge Danticat, Matt de la Peña, Alan Gratz, James Ponti, Jennifer L. Holm, Aaron Reynolds, Pablo Cartaya, Christina Diaz Gonzalez, Brad Meltzer, Justin A. Reynolds, Chantal Acevedo, Chris Grabenstein, Sita Singh, Margaret Cardillo, Dr. Michael Woodward, Silvia Lopez, and Samantha San Miguel on 55 visits to underserved Miami-Dade public schools, plus many shelters, libraries, and community spaces, where every child in attendance was gifted a signed copy of the author's book, to start or build their home libraries. The authors were received like rockstars, and the impact on the students was life-changing.

Since its founding in 2023, the Books & Books Literary Foundation has sustained the Books & Books stores as community hubs, supporting 400+ events annually in-store and at locations around the county. In addition to author events and signings, we provide engaging, free-to-join programs like Silent Reading Parties, Little Libraries, and Independent Bookstore Day, connecting people around the act of reading.

We are a tiny but nimble team, and we pride ourselves on efficient and effective use of donor contributions, which fund 100% of our efforts. We humbly ask for your support in extending our reach and impact with a gift of any amount.

• $50 gives books to 3 students who lack read-for-fun books at home
• $100 grows our Meet an Author, Build a Library program with M-DCPS
• $250 sustains our Events program with renowned and first-time authors
• $500 supports Great Big Free Book Fairs and sustains our advocacy work
• $1,000 brings author visits and signed books to four Title I schools

Every dollar helps us continue the role of our beloved bookstore as a locus for learning, and helps us bring the joy of literary culture beyond the bookstore walls to neighbors around Miami-Dade County.
