Every week, we rescue thousands of pounds of food from grocery stores, restaurants, and catered events. This food is perfectly good to eat but can't be sold due to its best by date, damaged packaging, or surplus. We use those ingredients to create meals for people experiencing homelessness and/ or food insecurity. In addition to our volunteers, we partner with other non-profit organizations and mutual aid groups to be able to distribute more meals and reach more people. We fill community refrigerators, where anyone can just open the door and take whatever they need, completely free of charge. We serve warm meals to 300 people at our weekly outreach in Downtown Miami and host monthly outreach events where we serve hot meals, clothes, shoes, toiletries, blankets and other necessities to people experiencing houselessness. We serve communities all over South Florida including Overtown, Downtown, Liberty City, Allapattah, Opa-Locka, Hialeah, Little Haiti, Wynwood, Coconut Grove, Richmond Heights, Goulds, Naranja, Cutler Bay, Homestead, and Florida City. In addition to creating meals for people in need, reducing food waste also has a positive impact on the environment. When we divert thousands of pounds of food from landfills, we simultaneously reduce the amount of methane entering the atmosphere and causing pollution.
