How We Began

On August 24th & 25th, 2018, with Franco as instructor, Arts Accelerator offered its first Screenwriting and Filmmaking Masterclass in Fort Lauderdale. In two days, 10 attendees, many with no film experience, wrote and shot two short films, “Theft” and “God’s Plan” both of which were accepted in competition and screened as “official selections” at the 2020 Fort Lauderdale Film Festival. 

On Oct. 31, 2018 Arts Accelerator Inc. received 501c3 status. 

Since the initial proof of concept, Arts Accelerator expanded its programming to help local creatives bridge gaps on the journey from inspiration to sustainable careers. 

To develop writing talent, Arts Accelerator separated the Masterclasses and offered a 2-day Screenwriting and Filmmaking Masterclasses separately to allow creatives more time to master each skill. After receiving feedback from attendees of the Screenwriting Masterclass who requested continuous programming to serve as a structure to constantly improve and complete content, the Arts Accelerator built additional programming in the form of Live Script Readings, Casting, and Story Labs to programming.

To promote film production, talent discovery, and monetization Arts Accelerator extended programming to include “Creatives in Film” networking events, the Arts Accelerator Film Festival, 48-Hour Film Project, and the South Florida Filmmakers Showcase.

2023 - 2024 programming included:

1 Screenwriting Masterclass

4 Live Script Readings with over 250 attendees 

30 Videos of Live Readings add to the inventory for streaming platforms. 

1 Arts Accelerator Film Festival with nearly 650 attendees.

5 Films selected for the South Florida Filmmakers Showcase.

1 Creatives in Film Networking Event with over 150 attendees.

3 Casting and Networkingcapa Events with 125+ attendees.

32 Teams of filmmakers created 31 short films for the 48-HourHERE Film Project.

2000+ creatives served in Dade and Broward annually.

The Creatives in Film casting and networking events have connected over 900 industry professionals and inspired creative collaborations resulting in over 33 short film productions.

The 2023 Arts Accelerator Film Festival screened nearly 40 films attracting almost 400 local industry professionals. 

5 short films were selected for global streaming distribution in the South Florida Filmmakers Showcase. 

“Alpha”, the most recent short film written at the Screenwriting Masterclass, and shot at the Filmmaking Masterclasses, is in post-production in preparation for upcoming film festivals.
