300 Letters was born from the lived experience of Legend and Amanda Tarver, a husband and wife who faced incarceration at the same time — separated from their eldest son and learning, just two weeks into their sentence, that another child was on the way. Through 300 LETTERS exchanged during that time, they discovered the power of communication, hope, and unconditional love to hold a family together against all odds. Today, 300 Letters exists to strengthen the bond between parents returning home and the children waiting for them. Our mission is to help families heal from the trauma of incarceration ; not to be defined by their past, but to rise through it with resilience, love, and purpose. We are powerful partners for families reentering their communities, because we’ve lived that journey ourselves  and we know exactly what it takes to rebuild.

300 Letters aims to break the cycle of intergenerational incarceration by providing emotional support and mental health services, child-care assistance, financial relief, personal development coaching, resume building and community resources to families with young children affected by the divide of incarceration. By creating a safe and transparent environment, families come together to process, heal, and thrive.

DID YOU KNOW ? Nearly 2.7 Million children under 18 have an incarcerated parent in the U.S.A. Parental incarceration is the silent epidemic of our country. 4.2 million children in America have asthma BUT 5 million children in America have experienced parental incarceration. It is a public health crisis!

The 300 Letters “Healing Hearts” Program is FREE for eligible families that have been divided by an incarceration experience.  This program provides individual, couples, family & play therapy for 12-16 weeks alongside child-care assistance so that families can focus on healing and strengthening the family foundation. During this program you will have access to life coaching, resume building and purpose exploration. “Healing Hearts” is focused on rebuilding your family bonds, improving your perspective and allowing you to heal from within to become your best possible self.  This program was created to bring awareness to families about the realities of incarceration and  break the cycle of intergenerational trauma.

Mission

Our mission at 300 Letters is to treat Incarceration as a family affair. We work with parents who want to build strong foundations within their homes and ensure their children understand the potential impact their actions and decisions might have over their future. Our goal is break the cycle of generational incarceration and not allow the children of incarcerated parents to become another statistic.

We have a belief that the strongest way to make change in the world is by starting at home, building ourselves and the people we hold dearest up internally.

300 Letters envisions a positive future for families recovering from incarceration experiences.
