When a child is admitted to the NICU (Neonatal ICU), it is usually due to prematurity or because they need specialized medical care. While in the NICU, families are surrounded by support: world class medical professionals, social workers, nonprofit organizations and more. But when the day finally comes for their baby to be discharged from the NICU, many parents are left feeling alone, worried about the health and development of their child, and unsure where to turn. NICU Alumni works to support and educate those families after their baby has "graduated" from the NICU, to smooth the transition to home and to guide them toward the resources they need to give their child the best life possible.

While families adjust to the new rhythms of managing their child's care, including potential medication administration and coordinating multiple doctor's appointments, we step in to assist them in easily finding the right resources to support their child. This is especially crucial in the early months when development is rapid; any delays in setting up necessary support can have a compounding impact on a child's overall development.

At NICU Alumni, our primary focus is to provide simple, practical guidance to help families, medical professionals, and communities support their children as they navigate life after the NICU.

Mission

At NICU Alumni, we educate communities, medical professionals, and most importantly, families, so that they thrive well beyond the transition from the NICU (Neonatal ICU).
