Miami Ostomy Aftercare

A nonprofit organization

We work simultaneously on two fronts:
1) Aiding and assisting ostomy patients and their caregivers in adjusting to a new way of life. We provide education through our Support Group meetings (now transitioned to Zoom meetings);
through our website filled with the best tutorials on self care available, articles and resources; through our HELP LINE answered by an ostomy nurse with decades of experience; and our available referral professionals.
2) Advanced education in ostomy care of medical professionals through two professionals programs:
A) our Ostomy Care Associate (OCA) program, a three-month online program which culminates with a full day of hands-on instruction, and a letter of completion. This program is open to licensed nurses, and
B) our "Teaching the Teachers" program for home health care professionals. This free program offers a basic course (in person or over modern technology such as Skype or Zoom) to teach and assist the nurse assigned for two weeks of home health care to patients released from the hospital after an ostomy surgery. The home health care nurse has the task of not only caring for the post-operation patient but also teaching the patient self-care for when the two weeks of home nursing care is over.

Mission

Life After Ostomy Surgery should be viewed as a Return to a Normal Life.

Our Mission: To complete the work of doctors and nurses by offering aftercare services from the patient's point of view. The operation is not the end of the ostomy but the beginning of the rest of your life.

Our Goal: To provide a smooth transition back to a healthy, happy life, overcoming negative and overwhelming feelings with useful information and guidance.
