Miami-Dade County, Animal Services Department

A nonprofit organization

Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department (MDAS) is the only open admission shelter serving Miami-Dade County's 2.752 million residents and the 34 municipalities within its jurisdiction. As the sole municipal animal welfare agency in the community, our mandate includes live release programs, wellness clinics and animal control and welfare. MDAS offers adoptions, programming with local and out-of-state rescues, transport, TNR for community cats, as well as foster and volunteer opportunities. MDAS' wellness clinics offer low-cost spay/neuter, microchips, and rabies/vaccines packages to owned pets and licensing. MDAS also responds to complaints of stray, injured, or tethered animals, police cases, as well as dangerous dogs, animal cruelty, pet store/breeder violations, and animal bites to persons. With an average annual intake of 30,000, MDAS' current save rate of 90.7% (based on the Asilomar Rate) is an accomplishment toward upholding our no-kill shelter status.

Mission

Our mission is to save the lives of abandoned animals in our care, protect animals from cruelty, reunite lost pets with their owners, protect people and pets in our community from health-related issues and ensure the public's safety.
