HistoryMiami Museum is where history comes to life and the future is shaped by the lessons learned from our storied past. Through exhibitions, artistic endeavors, city tours, education, research, collections and publications, HM strives to help everyone understand the importance of the past in shaping our collective future. As one of the largest private history museums in the southeastern United States – and with 83 years of stewardship behind us – we stand as a cornerstone of cultural preservation and exploration, and an integral part of Miami's cultural landscape.

Our collections boast more than 30,000 three-dimensional artifacts, ranging from prehistoric archaeological finds to 20th-century Afro-Cuban folk art. Each tells a unique story and reflects the heritage of the diverse cultures that have shaped Miami. Inside our archives and research center, we house 2 million+ historical images, providing a wealth of knowledge for scholars, researchers and history enthusiasts. These archives serve as keys that unlock the stories of Miami's past. Our permanent exhibition, Tropical Dreams: A People's History of South Florida, is an immersive experience that takes visitors on a journey through South Florida, from 10,000 years ago to today. And we are honored to be accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, a distinction held by only 22% of history museums in the country. As part of the prestigious Smithsonian Institution Affiliations Program, we collaborate on exhibitions and educational programs within a rarified network of colleagues.

We welcome and encourage you to delve into the captivating narratives that embody all that is Miami. Help us honor the diverse cultures and rich heritage that make our city extraordinary by making a gift to HistoryMiami Museum on Give Miami Day!

Mission

HistoryMiami Museum – a Smithsonian Affiliate located in downtown Miami – safeguards and shares Miami stories to foster learning, inspire a sense of place and cultivate an engaged community. In addition to collecting, preserving and providing access to materials that document the Miami region, South Florida and the Caribbean, we offer a robust schedule of temporary exhibitions each year on subjects important to the community. Through our exhibitions, artistic endeavors, City Tours, education, research, collections and publications – and by connecting people through telling the stories of Miami's communities, individuals, places and events – HistoryMiami works to help everyone understand the importance of the past in shaping Miami's future.
