$40,000 Goal

Since its founding in 1989, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami has built more than 1,300 homes and served over 3,000 low-income partner families throughout Miami-Dade County. To date, Habitat has built and rehabbed homes in Liberty City, Little Haiti, Little River, Overtown, Miami Gardens, Highland Park, South Miami, West Perrine, South Miami Heights, Goulds, Princeton, Homestead and Florida City.

What we do

We bring the community together to provide low-income families with the opportunity to build and purchase their own homes. By helping families access affordable housing, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami strengthens Miami’s most challenged communities.

Our key initiatives include: 1) Building new homes on acquired lots. 2) Equipping families with the knowledge and skills to succeed as first-time homeowners. 3) Offering a 0% mortgage loan program to make homeownership truly attainable. 4) Revitalizing low-income, owner-occupied homes through exterior painting and landscaping via our A Brush With Kindness campaign.

This work is made possible through the dedication of volunteers and the support of local corporate, civic, and community partners.

Our Challenges

The challenge continues to be the volatile real estate market and shortage of land in South Florida.  With each new market report, we see that our area is notorious for exorbitant housing costs, making the prospect of home ownership especially difficult for low-income families that simply don't earn enough to gain a foothold.

How our work is possible

Miami Habitat collaborate with a wide of community partners to make our mission possible. These include corporations, community-based organizations, lending institutions, faith groups and churches, small businesses, and local government. They contribute both their time as volunteers on build sites and crucial funding to support our work.

Thanks to their support, through grants, bequests, House Sponsorship, Team Builds, individual donations, fundraising events, and online campaigns, we are able to continue building quality affordable housing for families in Miami-Dade who need a hand up to achieve their dream of homeownership.

Meet the Families

Hard Work Didn’t Add Up, Until Now

For years, Karla poured herself into work, long hours, sacrifices, determination, only to return to a home that gave nothing back: rising rent, cramped rooms, cockroaches, and humidity. Her mother even had to sleep in the living room. That wasn’t the life she worked so hard for. Today, Karla is rewriting her story with a safe, stable home she can finally call her own. Her mortgage is lower than her old rent, her mother has her own room, and there’s space for the whole family to gather and celebrate together. This is what happens when hard work meets opportunity.

Together at Last

Tyshara and Cornelius spent years longing for a place where their family could be whole. Tyshara and their three sons stayed with her parents, while Cornelius stayed with his uncle.

After hard work, long hours, and dedication to the Miami Habitat program, they now have a safe, stable place to call their own. For the first time, their family can live under one roof, and build memories side by side.

When Home is the Key to Keep a Family Together

Two years ago, rising rent and a cramped apartment forced Karla to consider a choice no parent should face. Being apart from her children. She refused to give up.

Now, Karla has a home she can afford, a place where her kids have their own rooms, laughter fills the backyard, and the whole family can grow together
