Good Samaritan Meals

A nonprofit organization

Good Samaritan Meals is a 501(c)3 IRS recognized nonprofit aimed at feeding the low income and homeless population. The Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act is a national law passed to incentivize food donation to nonprofits by minimizing liability to participating food providers, and this is what we have named and styled our charity after. Our mission is to relieve hunger in the Miami area by procuring and distributing food to the hungry to both provide food relief to those in need and reduce the waste of billions of pounds of food each year in America to build a path to a brighter, food-secure future. We work with dozens of different food producers, from large national chains like Trader Joes to small family owned businesses like Mamma Leones Bakery, and provide to a wide variety of charities in order to best serve our local population, ranging from well established local institutions like Miami Rescue Mission, Camillus House, and Lotus House, to smaller and more focused groups like Buddy System who is creating free community refrigerators in low income neighborhoods. Our network of dedicated volunteers is involved at every step along the way, from recruiting new food producers to donate, speaking with accepting charities, transporting the donated food, redistributing the rescued items, and participating with our sister organizations!

Mission

We are a food rescue nonprofit based in Miami, Florida. We aim to reduce food waste while also feeding those in need. We partner with local bakeries, restaurants, and grocery stores to pick up their unsold food that's still within "sell by" and "use by" dates. Our volunteers load up their cars and transport the food to local shelters, community centers, food pantries, and community fridges. No food donation is too small or too big!
