By way of programming and community organizing, the Fatherhood Task Force advocates for and engages fathers, male family members and male significant others as positive role models and mentors for children to assure their rights. The Task Force takes primary leadership for assuring that Fathers in Education Day and Fathers in Action & Advocacy Week continues as initiatives in M-DCPS having completed the 10th year successfully. Both these initiatives provide opportunities for fathers to engage with children in schools and attend interactive parenting workshops. We actively advocate through messaging and marketing parental policies that are equitable and inclusive of expectant and new fathers too. The Task Force provides consultation and speakers on fatherhood issues, engagement, messaging, outreach and program development like the Fatherhood Reading Squad: Leaders for Readers program and our Best Practices of Fatherhood program. The latter is an innovative, prevention oriented workshop geared to high school students, future, expectant and new fathers with the goal of reaching fathers early on in their development.

Mission

The Fatherhood Task Force of South Florida's mission is to increase the involvement of fathers in children's lives through advocacy by giving them a voice. The FTF values the importance of fathers' engagement with their children before they are born through adulthood. Early father engagement in children's lives reinforces fathers' further engagement. Our mission is to work with the health, mental health, social service organizations and educational communities to advocate and promote programming focused on the importance of fathers as it impacts on the academic and social emotional development of children. Our goal is parental social justice where both fathers and mothers REAP the benefits of their parenthood...that they know their Rights and have Equitable Access and Participation with their children. The bottom line is that children do better academically, emotionally and socially when their fathers are engaged in their lives; our programs assures that the community recognizes, respects and reinforces that message in their programming and policies. Children's Rights are behind our advocacy work as well.
