Stride for Strength, Walk for Jahmya

On July 30, 2010, the world was forever changed by the arrival of a brave little girl named Jahmya. Born with a complex congenital heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia, Jahmya entered this world already facing a battle most of us could never imagine. But from the very beginning, she showed everyone around her what true strength and courage looked like.

Tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia is a rare heart condition that affects the structure of the heart and how blood flows to the lungs. It means the pulmonary valve, which is crucial for blood flow from the heart to the lungs, did not form properly. For Jahmya, this meant surgeries, hospital stays, medical procedures, and constant monitoring. But more than that, it meant living each day with determination and grace.

Though her journey was filled with challenges, Jahmya lived with a light that could not be dimmed. Her laughter was contagious, her spirit unbreakable, and her love for life was evident in everything she did. She taught her family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her how to find joy in small moments and how to remain strong in the face of uncertainty.

Jahmya’s heart may have been fragile in a medical sense, but emotionally and spiritually, it was one of the strongest. She loved fiercely and lived fully, inspiring others not with words but through her presence and perseverance. Whether she was playing, dancing, or just sharing a quiet moment with her family, her energy filled every room she entered.

On May 27, 2025, Jahmya’s earthly journey came to an end when she passed away from myocarditis, an unexpected and devastating inflammation of the heart. It was sudden and heartbreaking, but even in her passing, Jahmya left behind a legacy of love, light, and unimaginable strength. Though she is no longer physically with us, her spirit continues to guide and uplift everyone who knew her.

This Heart Walk is not just an event for us. It is a celebration of Jahmya’s life, her legacy, and the strength she gave to all who knew her. Every step we take is a step for her and for the many children and families who continue to face the realities of congenital heart disease. We walk in honor of her journey and in hope for others like her. We walk to raise awareness, to support research, and to help families feel a little less alone in their own battles.

Jahmya’s story is one of resilience, love, and hope. Her life, though shorter than we wished, made a lasting impact that continues to grow. Her legacy lives on in the work we do, in the lives we touch, and in the mission to ensure that every child born with a heart defect gets the best chance at life.

On this walk, we carry her memory in our hearts and on our shoulders. We walk with pride, with purpose, and with love. Jahmya may no longer walk beside us, but her spirit leads the way. Her journey reminds us that even the smallest hearts can make the biggest impact.

For Jahmya, always. ❤️‍🔥
