Dominica Coffee Revitalization Initiative

A nonprofit organization

The Dominica Coffee Revitalization Initiative is a local nonprofit project with global implications. We seek to provide Dominican farmers with intellectual, financial, agricultural, and ecological support to pursue sustainable and ecologically beneficial agricultural practices, specifically through the implementation of specialty coffee cultivation. The methods, experiences, and successes of this project will provide a model by which nations across the world can respond to natural disasters via sustainable agricultural, agroforestry, and forestry methods. In addition, the DCRI seeks to raise awareness of these global climatic issues across the State of Florida with a focus on the Miami Metropolitan area through documentary screenings, presentations, and workshops. Due to Miami's geographic and cultural position firmly on the rim of the Greater Caribbean Basin with particular vulnerability to natural disasters, this multi-national initiative will assist in linking Florida to the Caribbean by creating a unified response to the growing concern of tropical cyclones and their effects on the ecological, economic, and cultural landscapes of the areas effected.

Mission

The Dominica Coffee Revitalization Initiative (DCRI) seeks to rebuild the coffee industry on the island of Dominica, West Indies. By incorporating cutting-edge sustainable agriculture techniques such as agroforestry, coffee varietal hybrids, and stratified planting, this project aims to reimagine the Dominican coffee production as an ecologically, culturally and economically beneficial sector. The DCRI intends to provide a long-term agricultural solution to disaster recovery while simultaneously promoting financial stability for farmers and forest growth in Dominica's pristine landscapes. Furthermore, by promoting the mission of Dominican farmers in the State of Florida (particularly in the Miami Metropolitan area), the DCRI seeks to raise awareness of global and regional sustainable agricultural practices and disaster recovery methods that have global implications.
